Dr Brenda Bristol
Dr Brenda Bristol is a lecturer and writer. She is the author of the forthcoming second edition of The Hidden Theory: the African Diasporic Metaphysical Female Figure in the Works of Zora Neale Hurston, Toni Morrison, Jean Rhys, Paule Marshall and Jamaica Kincaid. Dr Bristol has lectured in the Caribbean Studies Centre at the University of London, Goldsmiths' College. She has also lectured in Caribbean Studies and Literature at the University of London, Birkbeck College, at City Lit. She holds a PhD in African Studies from The School of Oriental and African Studies.
Her mission is to share the new and exciting literary theory that she has developed, which is based on Black women writers. She is also enthusiastic about conveying deep insights into the secret female figurations present in Toni Morrison's , Beloved, Song of Solomon and Paradise, Zora Neale Hurston's, Their Eyes Were Watching God, and Paule Marshall's The Chosen Place, The Timeless People and Praisesong for the Widow. Dr Bristol is keen to facilitate culturally based creative writing in a supportive atmosphere.
