The Heritage Trail Association, Inc. was formed in 1994 by people who had a vision of keeping Somerset County history and historic places alive and exposed to the public at large.
HTA's originally written narrated bus tours, monthly speakers, house tours, themed events and many other varied events throughout the year.

The Historic Philip Van Horne House was built in 1750 and was the home of the Van Horne's who welcomed British and Americans equally. The Van Horne house, also known as Convivial Hill, was used by General Lincoln during the Winter Cantonment of 1778-79 and also hosted Lord Cornwallis, Captain Ewald, General Lincoln, General Greene, Lord Stirling Alexander Hamilton and more, and has a prominent place in the Battle of Bound Brook of 1777.
